Siamo a Verona sotto il Ponte Scaligero, lungo l’asse storico e monumentale che collega l’Arsenale austriaco, Castelvecchio, il Museo Lapidario Maffeiano e Piazza Bra. Sullo sfondo Palazzo Canossa del Sanmicheli.

Il fotografo ha ripreso alcuni ragazzi che approfittano della magra primaverile dell’Adige per raggiungere la base di un’arcata. Una ragazza vestita di bianco siede solitaria su un masso, un’altra la sta raggiungendo, mentre altri due giovani si arrampicano su grossi blocchi di marmo. L’acqua, quasi immobile, restituisce i riflessi degli edifici storici e delle figure umane unendo le testimonianze del passato alla vita quotidiana.

In questa immagine in bianco e nero un’architettura di transito diventa un luogo di sosta e scoperta al riparo dal mondo. È un rifugio urbano temporaneo, un “altrove” nel centro della città dove l’aria frizzante di primavera spinge a un’esplorazione che rompe la consueta prospettiva dalle rive del fiume o dall’alto del ponte.

Lo scatto evoca la pittura di Monet e la sensibilità naturalista per le superfici acquatiche. La ragazza in bianco richiama le celebri “dame” impressioniste, mentre i ragazzini che si arrampicano sui massi ricordano le figure vive e spontanee ritratte en plein air. L’acqua, con i suoi riflessi, frammenta e raddoppia la realtà fondendo passato e presente in un tremolio.

The photographer captured some youths taking advantage of the Adige’s spring low water to reach the base of an arch. A girl dressed in white sits solitary on a boulder, another is joining her, while two other young people climb large blocks of marble. The water, almost still, reflects the historical buildings and human figures, merging the testimonies of the past with daily life.

In this black and white image, an architecture of transit becomes a place of rest and discovery sheltered from the world. It is a temporary urban refuge, an “elsewhere” in the city center where the crisp spring air prompts a exploration that breaks the usual perspective from the riverbanks or from the top of the bridge.

The shot evokes Monet’s painting and naturalistic sensitivity for aquatic surfaces. The girl in white recalls the famous Impressionist “ladies” while the youngsters climbing the boulders remind us of the lively and spontaneous figures portrayed en plein air.The water, with its reflections, fragments and doubles reality, merging past and present in a shimmer.
