L’immagine in bianco e nero del pescatore è teatrale e drammatica. L’anziano, con il viso scolpito dal sole e dal sale, racconta ai turisti come era una volta la pesca delle anguille a Comacchio, d’autunno, durante le notti senza luna, quando soffiava il vento di bora. Le sue mani, nodose e vissute, sono sollevate in un gesto oratorio, quasi teatrale, come se stessero plasmando parole per richiamare una memoria fisica.
L’uomo è posizionato su un capanno di pesca, sopra l’acqua calma e scura della laguna. Alle sue spalle, contro un cielo minaccioso, ci sono i pali, i cavi d’acciaio e le carrucole che reggono il “bilancione” oggi calato in mare per i visitatori di passaggio.
Sebbene gli attrezzi, l’atmosfera e persino il tempo siano rimasti gli stessi, la sostanza del lavoro si è spostata dalla pesca alla voce.
The witness of the lagoon
The black and white image of the fisherman is theatrical and dramatic. The old man, with a face carved by sun and salt, tells tourists what eel fishing in Comacchio used to be like in autumn, during moonless nights, when the bora wind blew. His hands, gnarled and weathered, are raised in an oratory, almost theatrical gesture, as if they were shaping words to recall a physical memory.
The man is positioned on a fishing hut, above the calm and dark water of the lagoon. Behind him, against a threatening sky, are the poles, steel cables, and pulleys that support the “bilancione” net, lowered into the sea today for passing visitors.
Although the tools, the atmosphere, and even the weather have remained the same, the substance of the work has shifted from fishing to the voice.
